LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Colorado Christian's Christina Whitelaw hit a baseline jumper at the buzzer as the Colorado Mesa Mavericks fell 56-54 at the CCU Events Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks and Cougars shot nearly identical percentages from the floor but Colorado Mesa made eight more three-pointers and the Cougars made ten more free-throws. Colorado Christian attempted 30 free-throws while CMU attempted 17 on the night.
Neither team led by more than six points and Colorado Mesa led for over 20 minutes in the contest while CCU led for just 11 minutes.
Colorado Mesa committed 18 turnovers which the Cougars converted into 19 points.
Leanndra Gilbert led all scorers on the evening with 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She also had one blocked shot.
Ashley Stevens finished with 11 rebounds.
Whitelaw led the Cougars with 16 points.
The Mavericks will return home for a games against Black Hills State and Chadron State.
