GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado Mesa trailed 11-5 early in the first half but went on a 53-18 run to close out the half and cruised to an 83-66 win over the Colorado Mines Orediggers at Lockridge Arena on Friday night in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball contest.
The 58 point first half points is the most the Mavericks have scored in a half since Feb. 8, 2014 when they scored 58 points in the first half at Chadron State.
Colorado Mesa shot 67 percent (22-of-33) from the field and shot even better from beyond the three-point arc where they hit 77 percent (10-of-13). They led by as many as 32 in the half.
Shanna Halalilo scored 15 of her team-high 19 points in the first half. Halalilo finished the game with four steals, three assists, and two rebounds.
The Mavericks made a season-high 13 three-point baskets on the night. They also had a season-high in assists (23) and steals (10).
Colorado Mesa shot only six free-throws on the night, all coming in the first half of action.
Ashley Stevens finished her night with seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Oredigger Taylor Helbig led all scorers with 26 points.
The Mavericks will take on the Colorado Christian Cougars at 5:00pm tomorrow night in Lakewood.
