Mavs Post Perfect Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CANYON, Texas – The Colorado Mesa volleyball team completed a perfect weekend sweep at the West Texas Lady Buff Classic with a pair of wins over Texas A&M Commerce and Truman State Saturday (Sept. 6).

The Mavericks have not lost a set this season winning all four matches by a score of 3-0.

"This was a good tournament for our team," said head coach Dave Fleming. "We won all of our matches, and I know we can get better. These were good teams and they exposed some things we need to work on."

Jordyn Moody was named the tournament's most valuable player. She tallied 81 assists on the day without a ball handling error.

Melissa Hess and Abby Ney were each named to the all-tournament team. Hess combined for 21 kills and hit over .400 in both matches Saturday. Ney finished the day with 17 kills.

"Melissa and Abby played great and were a lot of fun to watch," said Fleming. "Tiffany Petersen did a great job on her first weekend as a starter at libero. Jordan continues to be a top level setter."

The Mavericks hit .374 in the match against Commerce while holding the Lions to .129 for the match. CMU dominated in digs holding a 46-27 edge.

Colorado Mesa's defense improved even more in the second match of the day against Truman holding the Bulldogs to .103 hitting.

CMU hit .205 in the match but finished with a huge 50-35 lead in digs.

Truman tallied eight service aces to two for Mesa.

CMU will play four matches at the Colorado Premier Challenge hosted by Regis Sept. 12-13.
