GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – With the game tied 1-1, the Regis Rangers scored a goal with just a little over ten minutes to play to seal a 2-1 win over the Colorado Mesa Mavericks in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's soccer match.
After finishing the first half scoreless, Regis struck first in the 54
th minute with a goal from Rikki Fix. Fix took a shot from the far side of the field and hit the near post. After hitting the post, the ball trickled into the back of the net.
Colorado Mesa answered back in the 63
rd minute with a goal from freshman Amanda Wenzel. Wenzel took a cross from Sarah Pope and deflected it in front of the Ranger goal. The goal was her first of her collegiate career.
Regis got the game-winner from Sid Otto in the 80
th minute of the match. The goal was the first of the season.
The Mavericks fall to 0-6-2 on the season and 0-3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while Regis improves to 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the RMAC.
Colorado Mesa will be on the road next weekend with matches against Western State and UCCS.
