Mavs Storm Past Eagles

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Melissa Hess recorded a match-high 11 kills and hit .625 to lead No. 23 Colorado Mesa to a 3-0 win over Chadron State Saturday (Sept. 20).

The Mavericks won the first set, 25-10, thanks to a pair of six-point runs. CMU hit a match-high .526 without an error in the set and held CSC to a -.108 attack percentage.

The Eagles offensive struggles carried over into the second set as they hit a match-low -.108 with six kills and 10 errors on 37 attempts.

Abby Ney was a bright spot for the Mavericks in the second set who hit .429 as a team. She tallied four of her nine kills in the set to give CMU a 25-9 win.

The Eagles jumped out to an early four-point lead in the third set and held the lead for most of the match. The two teams were even at 21 but four straight points by the Mavericks sealed the set and the match, 25-21.

Jordyn Moody finished with a match-high 27 assists for the Mavs. Tiffany Petersen dug 13 balls while Erin Perez finished with nine.

Colorado Mesa hit .337 for the match, and Chadron was -.019. CMU also finished with a 45-35 edge in digs and a 5-4 mark in blocks.

CMU (9-2, 3-0) will play a three match road swing at MSU Denver, Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian next week.
