Women's Soccer Set for Texas Showdown

Complete Match Notes vs. Dallas Baptist and Angelo State

WEEKEND RECAP
Colorado Mesa opened the season with a 2-2 tie with Midwestern State. Midwestern was picked to win the Lone Star Conference in the preseason poll. Darion Wiegert and Sarah Pope each scored in the match.

On Saturday, the Mavericks were shutout by Texas Woman's 2-0. CMU outshot the Pioneers in the match but came up short on the scoreboard.

PLAY OF THE WEEK
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference introduced the "RMAC Top 5 Plays of the Week" on Wednesday. The plays will be voted on each week by the conference office and fans online.

Darion Wiegert's long goal against Midwestern State made the list at No. 4. Wiegert's goal from 20 yards out tied the match for CMU. To watch the video, visit CMUmavericks.com.

RECOVERED
Colorado Mesa had two goals in the opening weekend and they came from two players they didnt have last year in Sarah Pope and Darion Wiegert. Pope was lost in the early portion of the season and Wiegert in training both to season-ending injuries. 

NEWCOMERS
Another pair of newcomers made starts in both matches over the weekend. Baylee Lindsley and Chantal Gustine both started both matches in Durango. Lindsley is a junior-transfer from Otero while Gustine is a transfer from Pacific University in Oregon.

THE COMPETITION
The Mavericks will take on a pair of teams ranked in this week's NSCAA South Central Regional poll. Dallas Baptist, the Mavericks opponent on Thursday, comes into the match ranked seventh in the poll and Angelo State checks in at No. 5.

The top six teams in the final NCAA poll, which will debut in late October, will qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

RECORD CHASERS
Sarah Pope and Sarah Schnetzler are chasing down numerous all-time records. Pope is closing in on shots per game (7th)and assists per game (5th) while Schnetzler ranks in the top ten in nearly every goalkeeping category. 

FIRST TIMER
Head coach Jason Clare will be coaching his first collegiate game as a head coach on Thursday. Clare spent last season as an assistant coach for Colorado Mesa and spent two years prior to that at Dodge City CC in Kansas. Prior to his time in the US, Jason coached the Yeovil Town Club and at the Center for Excellence, a development academy in England.

RMAC PRESEASON POLL
Colorado Mesa was picked to finish ninth in the RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll and didnt place anyone on the preseason team. Colorado Mines was picked to win the league while Metro State was second.

NEXT UP
The Mavericks will open up RMAC play with matches against Colorado Christian and Metro State. CMU will take on CCU on Friday at 4:30pm at Walker Field on Friday then head to Denver on Sunday for a match with Metro State.
