Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa junior right hander
Matt Delay threw 97 pitches in a 6-0 complete game, shutout win over Colorado Mines in the first round of the RMAC Tournament at Suplizio Field. It was the first nine inning complete game for the Mavericks this season.
Delay improved to 8-0 on the season after a masterful performance on the mound. He scattered six hits, struck out three and induced 18 ground ball outs. He also retired the final six batters he faced.
Shortstop
Nate Robertson finished the game with seven assists while second baseman
Derrick Garcia had five.
Robertson also went 1-for-4 on the night and hit his fifth home run of the season.
Colorado Mesa got on the board in the fifth after
Kevan Elcock reached second on an infield, dropped pop up and later scored on a
Garrett Carpenter sacrifice fly.
Garrett Carpenter finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and
Austin Wallingford went 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, and two runs scored.
Colorado Mines was led by freshman Cody Marvel who finished with two hits.
Colorado Mesa is now 25-0 at home and plays CSU-Pueblo in the RMAC Tournament semifinal game tomorrow at 3:30pm.
