Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After falling behind for the second straight evening, the Colorado Mesa baseball team rallied from a 6-3 deficit to defeat the St. Edward's Hilltoppers 12-8 at Suplizio Field on Friday afternoon.
St. Edward's entered the game with the nation's lowest team ERA at 2.40 while Colorado Mesa came into the contest leading the nation in team batting average at .359.
The Mavericks fell behind 6-3 after five innings, they rallied for a six-run inning. It was the second straight game CMU posted a six-run inning. In the inning, the Mavericks posted seven hits including three that went for extra bases.
Colorado Mesa tacked on single runs in the last three innings of the game to seal the deal.
Dakota Behr earned the win in relief of starter
Matt Allen. Behr pitched 2.1 innings of no-hit baseball and surrendered just a lone walk while striking out two. The win was his first of the season and improved his record to 1-2.
Austin Kaiser led the Maverick attack with a 3-for-6 game with a pair of triples and two runs driven in. Kaiser's first hit of the game was his 100
th of the season and now has a NCAA Division II leading 102 hits.
Freshman
Kevan Elcock finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a run driven in. Elcock had a RBI double in the Mavericks six-run sixth.
Sergio Valenzuela and
Derrick Garcia each had three hits as well.
Colorado Mesa continue to stay perfect at home with a 29-0 record.
The Mavericks advance to the winner's bracket final and will face the winner of Texas A&M - Kingsville and West Texas A&M tomorrow at 12:00pm.
