Mavericks Claim RMAC Tournament Championship

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa earned their 11th all-time conference tournament championship after a 4-2 win over CSU-Pueblo in the championship game on Saturday afternoon at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks earned the automatic bid into the South Central Regional with the win and will appear in their sixth straight NCAA Tournament.

This is the first time since 2006 that the Mavericks have won both the regular season and conference tournament championships.
 
The Mavericks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after a double play that scored a run and a RBI single by second baseman Derrick Garcia that scored Garrett Carpenter.
 
Colorado Mesa got an RBI single in the third by Nate Robertson and an RBI single by Jordan Liester in the fifth stretched the lead to 4-1.
 
CSU-Pueblo threatened in the eighth but could only scratch across one run.
 
Senior Tyler Dunnington pitched the final five outs of the game to earn his first save of the season.
 
Senior Austin Kaiser finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and sparked the two-run first inning. Kaiser was named the tournament's most outstanding player after batting over .600 in the tournament.
 
Derrick Garcia, Jordan Liester, and Garrett Carpenter all finished the game with two hits.
 
Kyle Davis got the start in the final and didn't disappoint. Davis went seven innings and allowed one run on eight hits, walked two and struck out five to earn his seventh win of the season. He improved to 23-1 in his career and was named to the all-tournament team.
 
Joining Davis and Kaiser on the all-tournament team were Austin Wallingford, Nate Robertson and Matt Delay.
 
The Mavericks improved to 27-0 at home on the season and 40-10 overall. This is the seventh time in the last eleven seasons they have won 40 or more games.
 
Colorado Mesa will await word on whom and where they will be playing in the NCAA South Central Region Tournament. The NCAA selection show is slated to begin at 8:00pm.
