Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. – The 13
th ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team swept a doubleheader over RMAC rival CSU-Pueblo on Saturday afternoon at Rawlings Field. The Mavericks took game one by a score of 6-4 and then the second game 10-4. They now lead the overall RMAC standings by three and a half games.
In game one, Colorado Mesa trailed 3-0 after four innings but were able to score six unanswered runs and win the opener 6-4. The four-run sixth inning was highlighted by a
Sergio Valenzuela two-run single and a
Jordan Liester pinch-hit two-run single.
Valenzuela finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs driven in and Liester went 2-for-2 with three runs driven in.
Matt Allen picked up the win in relief of starter
Ryan Reno. Allen went 4.2 innings and allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out two.
Garrett Carpenter picked up his third save of the season.
In the nightcap,
Kevin Mitchell helped break up a 4-4 tie in the seventh with a grand slam off the scoreboard in right center field and helped the Mavericks to a 10-4 win.
Cody Lahman picked up the win in relief of
Joey Danner. Lahman pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball, only giving up a pair of hits and struck out one.
Austin Kaiser continued his assault on opponents. Kaiser finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two runs driven in. He also had a double and his seventh home run of the season.
Colorado Mesa and CSU-Pueblo will conclude their four-game series tomorrow with a single nine inning game beginning at 12:00pm.
