Mavericks Sweep Roadrunners

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa swept a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference double header from the visiting Metro State Roadrunners on Saturday afternoon at Suplizio Field. The 20th ranked Mavericks won game one 10-3 before taking the second game 2-1.
 
In game one, the Mavericks fell behind 3-0 after two and a half innings but answered scoring ten unanswered runs on their way to a 10-3 win. CMU hammered out ten hits, four of which went for extra bases.
 
Lefty Nevin Wilson returned to the rotation and only went 2.2 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits, walked four and struck out three.
 
Matt Allen picked up the win in relief and improved to 6-1 on the season. Allen pitched the final four innings and didn't allow a hit, walking one and striking out three.
 
Austin Kaiser, Garrett Carpenter and Derrick Garcia each had two hits in the game.
 
In game two, Austin Kaiser broke up a 0-0 tie with a RBI single in the fifth inning and the Mavericks were able to add one more and hold on late to pick up a 2-1 win.
 
Both starting pitchers pitched well as Colorado Mesa's Joey Danner and Metro State's Kevin Hand combined to allow just two runs in their respective starts.
 
Danner went on to pick up the win and improved to 5-2 on the season. He scattered three hits, walked three and struck out four.
 
Kaiser, Garcia, and Colton Schoelkopf each had two hits in the game as well.
 
The two teams will conclude the four-game series tomorrow afternoon with a single nine inning game beginning at noon.
