Mavericks Tame Grizzlies 11-3

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa hammered out 13 hits and limited Adams State to just four hits in an 11-3 win. The Mavericks scored nine runs from the fourth to the sixth innings to secure the win.
 
Matt Delay picked up the win in his fourth start of the season. Delay (3-0) pitched seven innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and struck out six. He was able to retire seven Grizzlies in a row from the end of the first inning to the start of the fourth inning.
 
Colorado Mesa allowed one run on the top of the first inning but answered with two in the bottom half of the inning. The two runs started a stretch where the Mavericks scored 11 unanswered runs.
 
Sergio Valenzuela paced Colorado Mesa at the plate. Valenzuela finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a run driven in.
 
He was also a part of a group that stole a season-high eight bases in the game. He and Austin Kaiser each stole two bases in the game.
 
Kaiser and Nate Robertson each finished the game with two hits.
 
Colorado Mesa will square off the Adams State Grizzlies in a doubleheader that begins at 1:00pm at Suplizio Field.
