Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Cowboys

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Colorado Mesa split a doubleheader with the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on Saturday afternoon at Brandt Field. The Mavericks won the first game 9-1 then fell in the second game 10-1.
 
In game one, the Mavericks pounded out 14 hits and lefty Ryan Reno allowed just one run in the Mavericks 9-1 win over New Mexico Highlands.
 
Reno allowed just the one run on nine hits, walked two and struck out six in his first start of the season. Reno worked out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning and escaped without allowing a run.
 
Austin Wallingford paced the Mavericks with a 3-for-4 performance. Wallingford finished with three runs scored and three runs driven in and hit his second home run of the season.
 
Garrett Woodward finished with two doubles as well.
 
In the nightcap, Colorado Mesa could only manage five hits while New Mexico Highlands was able to get 13 hits in a 10-1 win over the Mavericks.
 
The Cowboys retired eight Mavericks in a row late in the game.
 
Wallingford had two hits in the game.
 
The two teams will conclude their four-game series tomorrow. The outright RMAC lead will be on the line in the game with Mavericks entering with a 10-4 record and the Cowboys coming in with a 10-3 record.
