Mavericks Blow Lead Against Cowboys

Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Colorado Mesa allowed 11 runs in the final four innings in a 12-11 loss to New Mexico Highlands at Brandt Field. The loss snaps the Mavericks nine-game winning streak and drops them to 14-4 on the season.
 
The Mavericks were able to get on the early in the game. Junior Garrett Woodward blasted his first homerun as a Maverick with a solo shot in the top half of the second inning to give CMU a 1-0 lead.
 
Colorado Mesa scored five runs in the fourth inning and five in the eighth inning as well but was unable to keep the Cowboys off the board in the final four frames.
 
Sergio Valenzuela and Jordan Lieter each hit homeruns for the Mavericks in the game. Valenzuela finished the game 3-for-3 with three runs driven in as well.
 
Matt Delay got the start on the mound and picked up a no decision. Delay went six innings and allowed three runs on nine hits, walked three and struck out two.
 
Delay worked out of jams in the first three innings, inducing New Mexico Highlands into three double plays in three of the first four innings of play.
 
Dakota Behr picked up the loss in relief.
 
The Mavericks will continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm.
