Matt Delay gave up six hits and allowed just one run in seven innings of work in an 11-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over Colorado Mines Friday (March 14).
Tyler Dunnington struck out five of the eight batters he faced and gave up just one hit in two innings of relief work for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks opened with two runs on three hits in the first inning thanks to a double by Nate Robinson and a single by
Kyle Serrano.
Mines answered with its lone run in the top of the second inning.
Mesa exploded for four runs on four hits, including a triple by
Tony Audino, in the fourth inning.
CMU added one run in the sixth and two more in both the seventh and eighth.
Austin Kaiser and
Austin Wallingford each batted 2-for-4 at the plate, while
Tony Audino was 2-for-3. Jordan Lester tallied a team-high two RBIs.
The Mavericks did not committ an error in the contest with the Orediggers racking up three.
CMU improves to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the league.
Mesa and Mines will play a doubleheader Saturday (March 15) starting at 1 pm.
