Maverick Trio Combines to Shutout DI Bears

Box Score GREELEY, Colo. – Junior Austin Wallingford and a trio of pitchers was all it took for the Colorado Mesa baseball team to defeat the Division I Northern Colorado Bears 2-0 at Jackson Field. The Mavericks moved their record to 5-1 on the season.
 
Austin Wallingford provided all the scoring for the Mavericks. Wallingford belted a 2-1 pitch over the fence to give the Mavericks the 2-0 advantage.
 
Nevin Wilson got the start on the mound and didn't disappoint in his second start. Wilson pitched six innings and allowed just three hits and struck out one, using just 75 pitches.
 
Cody Lahman followed and threw 1.2 innings allowing just one walk.
 
In the ninth, closer Dakota Behr came in and shut the door. Behr pitched 1.1 inning and struck out two to pick up his third save of the season.
 
Derrick Garcia finished the game 3-for-4 with one run scored.
 
The Mavericks and Bears will have the rubber match of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon beginning at 12pm at Jackson Field in Greeley.
