Box Score GREELEY, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa baseball team allowed three runs in the first inning and could never fully recover in a 5-3 loss to Northern Colorado at Jackson Field on Sunday afternoon. The Mavericks fall to 5-2 on the season heading into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Colorado Mesa tallied a lone run in the third, sixth and seventh innings while the Bears scored the three runs in the first then lone runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
Austin Kaiser led the Mavericks offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Kaiser finished the weekend 7-for-13.
Matt Allen took the loss for the Mavericks in his first career start. Allen went 4.2 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits, walked none and struck out five.
The Mavericks will open up RMAC play next weekend when they take on Colorado Christian in a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday at All Star Park in Lakewood.
