Mavericks Fall 6-4 to Division I Bears

Box Score GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado erupted for a five run third inning in a 6-4 win over the Colorado Mesa Mavericks on Friday afternoon at Jackson Field. The Mavericks stranded ten runners and grounded into three double plays in the game and dropped to 4-1 on the season.
 
After allowing five runs in the third inning, the Mavericks answered back with one in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth. Austin Wallingford had an RBI single in the fourth while Garrett Carpenter had an RBI groundout in the fifth.
 
Nate Robertson hit his second homerun of the season in the fourth inning as well. Robertson finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs driven in.
 
Colorado Mesa allowed one run in the bottom of the eighth but got it back in the top half of the ninth. But, that was all the Mavericks could muster against the Division I Bears.
 
Austin Kaiser finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
 
Joey Danner took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out two. His record fell to 1-1 on the season.
 
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow for the middle game of the three-game series.
