SCOUTING THE BEARS
Northern Colorado opened the season with five games in the Lone Star State in their first weekend of action. The Bears were swept by Sam Houston State in a four game series and then lost at #19 TCU on Tuesday.
Outfielder Jake Ekman led the Bears at the plate, batting .389 in the five games with a double and two runs driven in.Â
Senior Chris Hammer is the ace of UNC's staff. In his lone start, Hammer went seven innings and allowed five runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out four.
THE HOT CORNER
Sophomore
Tony Audino manned third base for the Mavericks in the season opening series. The Highlands Ranch native batted .462 with three doubles and four runs driven in. He was rewarded by the RMAC and was named the league's 'Player of the Week.'
BEHR DOWN
The Mavericks could use as many as three different closers this season but in the opening weekend that job belonged to
Dakota Behr. Behr finished the weekend with two saves and pitched in three of the first four games of the season. He threw three innings and allowed just one hit and struck out four.
ROTATION
Colorado Mesa will go with
Joey Danner,
Nevin Wilson, and
Matt Allen in their three game series with Northern Colorado. All three didnt allow a run in the four game series with Dixie State. Danner pitched six innings of scoreless while Wilson and Allen combined on a shutout in game two.Â
SPEED DEMONS
After only swiping two bases against Dixie State, CMU will look to start using their speed this weekend. The Bears allowed 16 stolen bases in their first five games five games. The Mavericks set a school record last season by stealing 143 bases in 56 games.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will continue its road trip and will open the RMAC season next weekend with a four-game series with Colorado Christian at All Star Park in Lakewood.
