Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa scored five runs in the first inning and two in each of the third and sixth innings to defeat the visiting Dixie State Red Storm 9-8 at Suplizio Field on Friday afternoon. The win was the only the Mavericks third in their last ten season openers.
Colton Schoelkopf drove in a career-high five RBIs on the day and finished 2-for-4. Schoelkopf lined a three-run double down the left field line in the first inning to put CMU up 5-0. He also threw out 50 percent of would be base-stealers on the day.
Tony Audino finished the game with three hits while
Jordan Liester and
Austin Kaiser each finished with two hits.
Ryan Reno picked up the win in relief. Reno threw 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits while walking one in his first appearance as a Maverick.
Senior
Garrett Carpenter picked up his first save of the season, allowing just one hit in his inning of work.
Dixie State's Drew McLaughlin finished the game with four hits.
Colorado Mesa will be back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm from Suplizio Field.
