GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa committed 29 turnovers and still managed to find a way to pick up a 76-66 win over the visiting Western New Mexico Mustangs on Friday night in Brownson Arena in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup.
Erin Reichle poured in 16 of her game-high 22 points in the second half including 10-of-10 from the free-throw line on the night. She also had a team-high six assists.
Turnovers plagued the Mavericks all night. Western New Mexico converted 24 points on the Maverick turnovers but struggled at the free-throw line.
The Mustangs were just 65 percent (17-of-26) from the charity stripe while Colorado Mesa was 86 percent (25-of-29).
The biggest discrepancy in the game came in rebounding where the Mavericks owned a 43-25 advantage and scored seven second chance points.
Leanndra Gilbert had her first double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and ten rebounds. She also had a career-high five blocks with four coming in the first half.
Erika Musante also put together a solid night with 16 points and nine rebounds. She is now hitting over 66 percent from the field.
The Mavericks trailed the Mustangs at the half, 37-34 after turning the ball over 18 times. They still managed to shoot 44 percent (10-of-23) in the half and limited Western New Mexico to just 39 percent (11-of-28).
The Mavericks will close out the mini two game home stand on Saturday night with a game against New Mexico Highlands.
