Mavericks Take Down Div. 1 Utah Valley

Box Score OREM, Utah – Erin Reichle led all scorers with 27 points in a 67-61 win over Div. 1 Utah Valley on Monday evening at the UCCU Center.

"There is a lot we can learn from this game. I'm happy we won. Defensively, we had some lapses, we allowed some easy layups and they shot a high percentage because of that," head coach Taylor Wagner said. "We were resilient and I was proud of that."

Reichle scored 15 of her 27 points in the first half and hit on 8-of-19 field goals for the game.

"I just thought my team was tough, it's so much easier to play when everybody is working hard and everybody is making their shots," the sophomore guard added. "We struggled in the preseason and in practice but I think we are finding our identity."

"She is going to be a special player. She worked her hard in the spring and summer," Coach Wagner added.

The team finished with 10 three-point field goals on 10-of-28 from beyond the arc. Reichle hit on five and Laurel Kasel on two while the Wolverines made only one on the night that came late in the second half.

Kasel finished the night with 12 and Shanna Halalilo picked up 11 in her first contest for the Mavericks.

Utah Valley was led by the 18 points of 6-5 center Sam Loggins.

At the break, Colorado Mesa had a 36-34 lead and made 5-of-17 (29.4 percent) from the three-point line. Reichle led all scorers with 15 points and Laurel Kasel had four assists. Utah Valley was led by Loggins' 11 points and four rebounds.

The Mavericks will head to Cedar City, Utah tomorrow to take on another Div. I opponent in Southern Utah. They will then open the season next Friday in Lakewood, Colorado as they play in the CCU Tournament against Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) and Drury (Mo.)

"It will definitely be a challenge," Reichle said about the matchup with Southern Utah. "They won the Big Sky last season."
