COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – 
Ryan Stephan recorded his first double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Colorado Mesa men's basketball team defeated Colorado College 71-70. Stephan shot 11-of-13 from the field and finished with two of the team's three blocks.
The Mavericks scored on three of their first four possessions to enjoy an early 9-2 lead four minutes in.
The Tigers would claw back in the half with the two teams trading the lead 10 times over the first 20 minutes before enter intermission with CMU leading 33-32.
The Mavericks would shoot 58-percent (14-24) in the second half and held the Tigers to 42-percent (12-28). CC would stay in the game thanks to six 3-pointers.  
Chris Lesnasky, who finished with 22 points, made a field goal and the free throw to give Colorado College its largest lead of the second half, 68-62, with 2:30 remaining.
Jerry Duckworth made his only 3-pointer of the game a minute later to cut the CC lead to three.
Ryan Stephan followed up with back-to-back baskets to give CMU the lead with 20 seconds remaining.
Justin Berardino regained the lead for the Tigers with 11 seconds to go, but 
Julian Vasquez made the game-winning lay-up for CMU with four seconds remaining.
Mesa dominated play in the paint out-scoring Colorado College 42-16.
Joe Kiely finished in double figures with 12 points for CMU shooting 6-of-7 from the line.
The Mavs shot 52-percent (29-55) for the game, and held the Tigers to 45-percent (26-58).
CMU (2-1) will face Northern New Mexico Saturday (Nov. 22).
