GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado –
Roy Abergil's goal with just 39 seconds left in the match gave Colorado Mesa their fourth straight win in a 1-0 decision over the Colorado Christian Cougars in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's soccer match.
The goal was Abergil's team-leading fifth of the season and came off a missed header by
Alan Hernandez. Hernandez' ball landed at the feet of Abergil. He then kicked in his fourth game-winner of the season.
Colorado Mesa took a season-high 22 shots but only seven came on goal in the match. Abergil took six with five of those coming on goal while
Stevie Palma took four shots.
Micah Conrads made four saves in the match and faced seven total shots. The shutout was his third of the season.
The Mavericks improved to 7-2-1 on the season and are in a four-way tie for first place with Regis, Fort Lewis and Colorado Mines.
Colorado Mesa will continue their four-match home stand next weekend. They will take on the Regis Rangers that could have major RMAC and NCAA South Central Region implications. Friday's match begins at 4:30pm at Walker Field.
