Mavs Move Win Streak To Five, Top #8 Regis

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – Oliver Querin's goal in the 58th minute was all it took for the Colorado Mesa men's soccer team to take down its second straight top 15 opponent in a 1-0 win over 8th ranked Regis on Friday afternoon at Walker Field.

The match boasted the two of the top teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. With the win, Colorado Mesa moves into the top spot in the conference with a 6-1 record while Regis falls into a four-way tie for second place with MSU Denver, Fort Lewis and Colorado Mines.

Querin's goal came off of a throw in from Charlie Dukes on the far side of the field which was headed over by Slater Elkind. Querin took it and shot past the goalie on the right side of the net. The goal was his first of the season.

The Maverick defense held on the rest of the way, limiting the Rangers to five shots in the second half and 11 in the match. They also held one of the nation's top goal scorers in Martin Maybin without a goal and just three shots in the match.

Brandyn Bumpas got the start in net and registered his third shutout of the season and moved into a second place tie all-time with six career shutouts. Bumpas made three saves in the match and faced 11 total shots.

Colorado Mesa now sits at 8-2-1 on the season and have won five matches in a row.

The Mavericks will be back at home on Sunday with a match against UCCS. The match is slated to begin at 12:00pm from Walker Field.
