GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – Colorado Mesa picked up a 3-0 win over Adams State on Senior Day at Walker Field. The win coupled with a Regis loss gave the Mavericks their first ever Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season championship since the program began in 2007.
Nestor Escobar got the scoring going in the 33
rd minute of the match. Escobar took a through ball from
Roy Abergil and beat the goalkeeper on a long breakaway for his second goal of the season.
A little over seven minutes, the Mavericks struck for their second goal of the match.
Stevie Palma took a cross from Escobar and finished on a one touch shot for his third goal of the season.
Escobar got involved on the Mavericks final goal of the match in the 47
th minute of the match.
Trentin Atkin headed in a cross by Escobar for his first goal of the season.
Escobar finished the match with four points and finished the weekend with a goal and three assists. He is now tied for the all-time mark in assists with 14 and moved from seventh to fifth on the all-time points list with 26.
Micah Conrads and
Nick Mabry split time in goal and each earned a portion of the shutout for the 11
th shutout of the season for Colorado Mesa. The duo only faced three shots in the match.
The win gave Colorado Mesa their tenth in a row and their seventh straight shutout. The Mavericks have outscored their opponents 17-2 in the win streak and 12-0 in the shutout streak.
Colorado Mesa will now host the semifinal and RMAC Tournament Championship match on November 7 and 9 at Walker Field. Tickets are on sale now at CMUmavericks.com.
The Mavericks will be on the road next weekend when they take on the MSU Denver Roadrunners and the Regis Rangers in Denver.
