GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado - The Colorado Mesa women's soccer team continued its season struggles when they fell to the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls this afternoon (Oct. 24) 2-1.

The Mavericks had a solid start to the match hanging with the Cowgirls for the half of the period until the Cowgirls struck first at 26:28. It was a long shot that deflected off the Maverick defender and high over goalie
Sarah Schnetzler's head to give New Mexico Highlands Mallory Bostic her third goal of the season.

The Cowgirls would go on to outshoot CMU 7-3 in the match before Colorado Mesa's
Monica Carlos first goal of the season would be the equalizer at the 43:05 mark in the half. Â
Sarah Pope was able to beat the defenders and passed to a wide open Carlos who buried the shot.

New Mexico Highlands took control in the second half, coming out shooting from the get-go. Â At 69: 28 in the match, a nice through ball by New Mexico Highlands, gave the Cowgirls leading scorer a one on one situation where she beat Schnetzler with the shot. The Cowgirls would take the 2-1 lead and that would be all the scoring for the game.

Colorado Mesa was outshot 20-11 on the night. Schnetzler gave up two goals while making 11 saves. Carlos led the team with four shots and three of them being on goal including the only goal of the night for CMU.Â
Sarah Pope had one shot and an assist.Â
Baylee Lindsley had three shots with two being on goal.

The Mavericks will travel to Durango, Colo. To take on Fort Lewis College on Oct. 31, before returning home for their final home match of the season against Adams State on Nov. 2.Â
