Mavericks Continue Road Swing

Complete Match Notes vs. Western State and UCCS

WEEKEND RECAP
Colorado Mesa suffered a pair of defeats last weekend with a 3-1 loss to the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves in Pueblo and a 2-1 loss to Regis at Walker Field.

Marie Dreher scored the lone goal in the loss to CSUP. It was her first career goal and it came on a free kick.

Against Regis, freshman Amanda Wenzel scored her first career goal which tied the match at 1-1 at the time.

HISTORY WITH WESTERN STATE
The Mavericks and Mountaineers have a short history as Western State started their program just three years ago. Colorado Mesa owns a 3-1-0 record all-time. The two teams split a pair of matches last season.

HISTORY WITH THE MOUNTAIN LIONS
Colorado Mesa owns a 5-1-1 record against Colorado-Colorado Springs in their brief history. UCCS started their program back in 2008 and their lone win came in 2010 when UCCS won 3-2 in Grand Junction. 

SCORING
The Mavericks have scored five goals in their matches this season. Darion Wiegert, Kendra Penchoff, Amanda Wenzel, Marie Dreher, and Sarah Pope have all scored. Wenzel and Dreher's goals were the first of their careers.

SHOTS
Colorado Mesa has been outshot 115-103 on the season. The Mavericks have outshot opponents 54-50 in the second half and 6-0 in overtime.

ROAD WARRIORS
Colorado Mesa has only played two matches at home and six on the road or at a neutral site. After this weekend, CMU will have five home matches in the next three weeks.

RMAC HISTORY
This summer the RMAC held their Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Colorado Springs. Three-time All-American Cheryl Bates-Olson was inducted as the first soccer player, men or women, into the RMAC Hall of Fame. Bates-Olson is tied for the school record in games played and games started. She also played in three NCAA Tournaments.

RMAC PRESEASON POLL
Colorado Mesa was picked to finish ninth in the RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll and didnt place anyone on the preseason team. Colorado Mines was picked to win the league while Metro State was second.

NEXT UP
The Mavericks will head home for a pair of matches at Walker Field. On Friday, they will host nationally ranked Colorado Mines before taking on another nationally ranked team in MSU Denver.
