Mavs Down Grizzlies in Three

Box Score The Colorado Mesa volleyball team won its eighth straight game tonight (Oct. 18) in a three game sweep of the Adams State Grizzlies. The victory marks CMU's ninth straight home victory dating back to last season.

The Mavs would come out of the blocks swinging in the first set of the night. A kill by Casey Ball gave CMU the first point and set the tone for Colorado Mesa. Midway through the game, the Mavericks would build a six point lead after an attack error by the Grizzlies would put the score at 12-6. Colorado Mesa would continue to dominate the game and find themselves ahead by 13 thanks to another error by Adams State. With the Mavericks at set point and having the 24-13 advantage, Erin Perez made sure the Grizzlies were not going to be able to mount a comeback when she hammered one to end the game. CMU would take set one 25-13.

Colorado Mesa really struggled to start the second set, finding themselves down 6-3 early. The Mavericks fought through the set, trailing for most of it. Trailing 11-4 in the game, CMU went on a 17-2 run to jump ahead of the Grizzlies. A kill from Casey ball would end it, giving the Mavericks the 2-0 advantage going into the third set.

Looking for their 14th straight set victory on the season, the Mavericks took the early lead and never looked back. An attack error by the Grizzlies would give CMU the early 12-6 lead. With the Mavs up 24-17 and at match point, a kill by Christian Otzen ended it for the Mavs with 25-17 win.

Colorado Mesa ended the evening hitting .233 while holding Adams State to a .051 hit percentage. Erin Perez led the way with her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs.  Casey Ball and Abby Ney also had good nights with their 13 and 10 kills respectively. Jordyn Moody had 38 assists, while Tiffany Peterson recorded 17 digs. Audrey
Steinkirchner had a team high five block assists. The Mavericks had a total of 58 digs, four service aces, and 46 kills.
