Mavs Win in Three

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The No. 16 ranked Colorado Mesa volleyball teams 3-0 victory over the Fort Lewis Skyhawks Tuesday (Oct. 14) gave the Mavericks their 13th straight set win on the season.

CMU would start off a bit shaky finding themselves down 6-3 early in the first set. A kill by Melissa Hess would put the Mavs back on track, and they would battle back to tie the score at nine. One of Erin Perez's 10 kills on the night would give Colorado Mesa the lead that the Mavericks would never relinquish. CMU would go on a six point run putting them up 22-14. A blast from Melissa Hess would give CMU the first set 25-15. Hess would hit .538 in the set with eight kills, while Erin Perez added five kills and four digs. Colorado Mesa hit .361, and the Skyhawks hit .097

Colorado Mesa took the first point before Fort Lewis would take the next two to put them up 2-1 in the second set of the night. Midway through the game, the Mavs found themselves on top 8-3. Abby Ney's three kills along with Tiffany Peterson' six digs in the set were accompanied by the Skyhawks 15 errors in the set to give CMU the 25-11 win. The Mavericks held Fort Lewis to a -.172 attack percentage while hitting .350 themselves.

The third and final set of the night was closer than the first two. The Skyhawks cleaned up their game to challenge CMU. The scoring went back and forth through the first half of the game with a tie score coming at eleven points apiece. An attack error by Fort Lewis gave Colorado Mesa the 12-11 advantage and that was all the help the Mavs needed. With the score 24-19 and one more point for the match win, Melissa Hess had beautiful finesse shot to finish off the Skyhawks. Hess had five of the Mavericks 14 kills in the set. Colorado Mesa compiled 20 digs, 15 assists and a service ace by Kricket Adleman.

The Mavericks finished the night hitting .302 and limiting the Skyhawks to hit .010. Erin Perez had her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. Jordyn Moody had 38 assists. Abby Ney hit .600 in the match with seven digs. Melissa Hess led the team in kills with 13 while hitting .423. Tiffany Peterson recorded 13 digs.
CMU will take on Adams State at home on Saturday (Oct. 18).
