GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – The Colorado Mesa women's soccer team was well on their way to upsetting the 17
th ranked MSU Denver Roadrunners but a pair of goals in the final seven minutes of action gave the Roadrunners a 2-1 win at Walker Field.
Colorado Mesa got on the board early in the first half on a goal by
Amanda Wenzel. Wenzel redirected a free kick from
Marie Dreher to give the Mavericks a 1-0 advantage. It was Wenzel's second goal of the season.
MSU Denver evened the score in the 83
rd minute and scored on a penalty kick in the 89
th minute to put them ahead for good.
Senior goalkeeper
Sarah Schnetzler made 12 saves and faced 22 shots while senior
Julia Kranstover led the Mavericks with four shots.
Colorado Mesa will play at Adams State on Friday before heading to Denver to play Regis on Sunday afternoon.
