Mesa Falls Late to #13 Orediggers

Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado Mesa went toe-to-toe with the 13th ranked team in the country in the Colorado Mines Orediggers. The Mavericks cut the lead to four with under a minute to play but fell in the end 94-86.
 
The Mavericks shot 47 percent (15-of-33) from the field and made more field goals than the Orediggers (31-29) but were outrebounded 38-28. Mines shot 52 percent (29-of-55) from the field and 33 percent from the three-point line.
 
Ryan Stephan led all scorers with 23 points. Stephan also grabbed four rebounds and was 4-of-6 from behind the three-point arc.
 
Jon Orr chipped in 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Orr finished with a double-double as he added 10 rebounds.
 
The biggest discrepancy in the game came at the free-throw line where Colorado Mines was 31-of-37 and the Mavericks 15-of-19.
 
Mines was led by Trevor Wages' double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.
 
At the half, Colorado Mesa led the Orediggers 40-38. The Mavericks shot 46 percent (15-of-33) from the field and connected on 44 percent (4-of-9) of their three-point attempts.
 
Ryan Stephan led all scorers with 11 points in just 11 minutes and Jon Orr finished the half with nine points and seven rebounds.
 
Colorado Mesa will host their first home games of 2014 when they take on the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves and the UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on Thursday and Friday. Both games begin at 7:30pm.
