DENVER –
Ryan Stephan scored a game-high 24 points for the Colorado Mesa men's basketball team but it wasn't enough in a 82-73 loss at Regis Saturday (Jan. 25). The game featured eight ties and 21 lead changes.
Mesa opened the contest shooting 53-percent (14-26) with six 3-pointers in the first half, but trailed at halftime by one 40-39.
Jerry Duckworth drained the lone 3-pointer of the second half for the Mavericks to pull within three, 76-73, with 52 seconds remaining. The Rangers made six straight free throws to secure the win.
Regis shot 52-percent (13-25) from the floor in the second half, including 7-of-11 (64-percent) from behind the arc. The Rangers shot a game-low 47-percent (14-30) over the first 20 minutes.
Carlos Perez came off the bench to score 14 points, and
Jerry Duckworth finished with 12 points, all from behind the arc. Mike Melillo chipped in 10.
Corbin Green led the Rangers with 22 points, shooting 8-of-10 from the field. Four of the Rangers five starters finished in double figures.
CMU finished with a 34-28 edge in rebounds.
Colorado Mesa (8-9, 6-7) will host Colorado School of Mines Friday (Jan. 31).
