Box Score DENVER – No. 3 Metro State converted 36-of-46 free throw attempts in an 86-76 home win over the Colorado Mesa men's basketball team Friday (Jan. 24). The Mavericks made 14-of-19 attempts and fall to 8-8 overall and 6-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
CMU excelled on both ends of the court in the first half shooting 52-percent (13-25) while holding Metro State to 26-percent (7-27) from the floor and just a single 3-pointer. The Mavericks enjoyed a four point lead, 35-31, at halftime.
The Roadrunners found their offensive stride in the second half shooting a game-high 53-percent (16-30). MSU also made more free throws in the second half (20) then CMU attempted in the game (19), and closed the game on a 35-13 run over the final nine minutes.
Landon Vermeer led the Mavericks with a team-high 19 points.
Jerry Duckworth poured in a career-high 18 points, including five 3-pointers on six attempts.
Carlos Perez was the third CMU in double figures with 13 points, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor.
Metro was led by Brandon Jefferson who finished with 30 points, one of five Roadrunners to finish in double figures.
Metro finished with four turnovers in the contest, one shy of a school record.
Mesa will close out the weekend at Regis Saturday (Jan. 24).
