Men's Basketball Opens 2014 on the Road

Colorado Mesa will open 2014 on the road with games at Colorado Christian Friday (Jan. 3) and Colorado School of Mines Saturday (Jan. 4). 
Player of the Week
Sophomore Ryan Stephan earned his first RMAC Player of the Week honor after tallying a pair of double-doubles against Fort Lewis and Adams State. The Lakewood, Colo., native scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against the Skyhawks. He followed up with 21 points and 10 rebounds against the Grizzlies. Stephens ranks first in the RMAC in shooting percentage (.632) and 10th in scoring with 16.6 points per game.
Keep It Low
Colorado Mesa is 5-0 this season when it holds its opponents to under 70 points. 
Shooting Matters
The Mavericks are 6-1 this season when it shoots better than its opponents and 1-2 when they shoot worse. 
Deep Threat
Junior Landon Vermeer ranks second in the league in 3-point shooting (.545) and ninth in 3-pointers per game (2.4). The Littleton, Colo., native is averaging 12.4 points per game, second most on the team. 
Season Highs
Colorado Mesa set five season-highs against Fort Lewis: points (93), field goals (33), free throw percentage (.808), total rebounds (47) and steals (7). The Mavericks made a season-high 11 3-pointers against Adams State. 
Grabbing Boards
Junior Mike Melillo currently ranks third in the league in rebounding at 7.4 per game. The Boulder, Colo., native is also averaging 8.6 points per game, fourth most on the team. 
Five Straight
With a win at Colorado Christian, the Mavericks will be on a five game winning streak, its first since January of 2013. 
Last Time Out
Colorado Mesa erased a nine point halftime deficit to defeat Adams State 75-73. The Mavericks out scored the Grizzlies 43-32 in the second half. 
Looking Ahead
Colorado Mesa will host CSU-Pueblo Friday (Jan. 9) and UC-Colorado Springs Saturday (Jan. 10).
