Box Score SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Colorado Mesa volleyball team dropped its first two sets at Western New Mexico but rallied to win the next three for the five set victory Saturday (Sept. 28).
The Mavericks offense started slow hitting .167 and .184 with the Mustangs winning by narrow scores of 25-21 and 25-23.
The turning point came in the third set for CMU where it hit a match-high .333 for the 25-19 win.
The offensive momentum would only last momentarily as Mesa hit a team-low .094 in the following fourth set. The CMU defense however did its job holding Western New Mexico to a match-low .064 attack percentage with Mesa taking the fourth set, 25-22, to set-up the pivotal fifth set.
The final set would feature a series of multi-point runs but the Mavericks would prevail 15-10 for the win.
CMU setter Jordan Moody tallied a match-high 53 assists and added 11 digs to finish with a double-double.
Christian Otzen also finished with a double-double thanks to a match-high 19 kills and 11 digs.
Mesa had three other players finish with 10 or more kills.
Abby Ney finished with 17 kills, while
Melissa Hess had 11 and
Casey Ball had 10. Ney also had a match-high eight blocks.
Colorado Mesa (10-2, 3-1) will host Adams State Oct. 4
