The Colorado Mesa University Baseball team bounced back after last night's loss to Colorado Mines with an 8-0 victory over Metro State in a loser-out game in the RMAC Tournament. The win moved the Mavericks record to 42-8 while the Roadrunners ended their season at 20-27.
The story of the ball game was the pitching of senior
Matt Williams. Williams, the RMAC Pitcher of the Year, pitched a complete game shutout allowing just six hits in the ball game. He walked one and struck out six while picking up his eighth victory of the season.
Williams now has 12 quality starts (Three earned runs or less and at least six innings pitched) in 14 total starts on the season. He dropped his ERA down to 2.25 for the season.
Garrett Carpenter returned to the lineup today after injuring his finger against the Roadrunners in early April. Carpenter extended his hitting streak to 21 games and finished the game 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two runs driven in. Carpenter hit his first homerun as a Maverick in the top of the ninth inning.
First baseman Jordan Moore-Leister got the start today and produced for Colorado Mesa. Moore-Leister finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Braden Box and
Nate Robertson each stole a base in the game. Box stole his league leading 22
nd base while Robertson stole his 21
st.
The Mavericks' march towards an RMAC Tournament Championship will continue tomorrow at 3:30pm against an opponent yet to be determined at Suplizio Field.
