The Colorado Mesa University baseball team continued its RMAC series with the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves on Saturday from Suplizio Field. The two teams split the doubleheader with the Mavericks winning game one 7-6 and CSU-Pueblo winning the nightcap 12-5. The loss loss snaps the Mavericks 10-game winstreak.
In game one of the doubleheader, Colorado Mesa led 4-0 heading to the top of the seventh inning but allowed six runs on seven hits and fell behind 6-4. The Mavericks were able to score three runs on a pair of hits to pick up the 7-6 win.
Braden Box singled home
Austin Kaiser to knot the game at 6-6. Box then stole second and scored from second on a wild pitch that the ThunderWolf catcher was unable to locate.
Box finished the game 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Mitch Corwin also finised 2-for-4 and delivered a solo homerun in the third inning, his second homer of the season.
Aaron Corwin picked up the win in relief. Corwin recorded the final out of the seventh inning on a strikeout and improves to 2-2 on the season.
In the nightcap, Colorado Mesa dug themselves an 8-0 hole after two innings and could never recover in an 12-5 loss to the ThunderWolves. The Mavericks cut the lead to 8-5 on a two-run homer by
Justin Rosales but that was all the closer they would get.
Rosales finished the game 2-for-4 with his team-leading fourth homerun of the season.
Joey Danner took the loss for the Mavericks. The loss was Danner's first of the season and is now 6-1 on the year.
Colorado Mesa's record now sits at 26-6 and 19-2 in the RMAC while the ThunderWolves are now 16-14 and 12-9 in RMAC games.
The two teams will conclude their series with a single nine-inning game tomorrow at 12:00pm from Suplizio Field.
