Colorado Mesa (18-10) dropped its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout semifinal at Metro State (26-2) 93-64, Friday night in Denver at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners advance to the championship game and will host Fort Lewis College on Saturday evening. FLC defeated Adams State in the earlier semifinal game at the event center.
The Roadrunners led from start to finish connecting on their first six shots of the contest. Metro quickly jumped out to a 17-4 lead, holding a double digit lead most of the game. Metro took a 47-27 lead in to intermission shooting 56 percent from the floor. CMU shot 38 percent in the first half.
Metro continued its hot shooting in the second half hitting 15 of 26 (58 percent) from the floor. Metro was led by Jonathan Morse's game high 21 points. Morse was 8 of 10 from the field. Four Roadrunners notched double digits; Morse (21), Brandon Jefferson (19 points), Mitch McCarron (17) and Demetrius Miller (12).
CMU was led by its two seniors; Jeff Hart and Colton Burgon each tallied 15 points. Hart had a game high five assists and Burgon finished 7 of 11 from the floor and pulled down four rebounds. Shawn King had 13 points, three rebounds and two assists off the bench.
