The Colorado Mesa University baseball team continued their four-game series against the Adams State Grizzlies on Friday afternoon at ASU Baseball Field in Alamosa, CO. The Mavericks continued to swing hot bats and get solid pitching in a doubleheader sweep of the Grizzlies, winning by scores of 14-5 and 9-2.
In game one, Colorado Mesa scored in every inning except the sixth on their way to the 14-5 win. The Mavericks pounded out 20 hits including five for extra bases while swiping six bases as a team.
Second baseman
Braden Box finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and a run scored. Box was joined by
Mitch Corwin, Jordan Moore-Leister,
Colton Little and
Austin Kaiser who all had multiple hits in the game.
Nate Robertson finished with four hits and four runs scored.
Matt Williams continued his consistent play on the mound. Williams pitched six innings and allowed three runs on five hits, walked none and struck out five while picking up his third win of the season.
In the nightcap, the Mavericks put up five runs in the third inning and tacked on three runs late to post a 9-2 win over Adams State. They scored their nine runs on just seven hits but benefitted from five Grizzly walks.
Joey Danner, last week's Rawlings/RMAC Pitcher of the Week, picked up his sixth win of the season on the mound. Danner pitched six innings and allowed just two runs on eight hits, walked none and struck out two. Danner's miniscule ERA raised just a tad after the outing to 1.83.
Garrett Carpenter extended his team-leading hitting streak to 14 games and has reached base successfully in 15 straight games. He finished the game 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Mavericks continued their thievery on the bases, stealing six bases in the nightcap.
The series will conclude with a single nine-inning game tomorrow beginning at 12:00pm from ASU Baseball Field in Alamosa, CO.
