Mavericks Sweep Doubleheader from Cowboys

The Colorado Mesa Univesity baseball team continued their four-game series with RMAC rival New Mexico Highlands on Saturday at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks swept both games by scores of 11-1 and 4-1. The wins improve the Mavericks record to 18-5 on the season and 12-1 in the RMAC while New Mexico HIghlands falls to 14-11 and 10-5 in RMAC games.

In game one, the Cowboys took a 1-0 lead after the top half of the first inning. The Mavericks then scored 11 unanswered runs including a six run third inning en route to the 11-1 victory. CMU scored their 11 runs on 13 hits while the Cowboys scored their lone run on six hits and they committed two errors.

Four Mavericks had two hits in the game including a 2-for-4 performance from Austin Kaiser. Kaiser added two runs scored and drove in four.

Matt WIlliams got the start on the mound and he delivered. Williams pitched the complete game allowing just one run on six hits, walked four and struck out four. He improves to 2-1 on the season.

In the nightcap, Colorado Mesa tallied two runs in the first and held on through the middle part of the game to secure a 4-1 win. New Mexico Highlands threatened to score through the middle part of the game but couldnt push the tying run across. Colton Little delivered a two-run double to give CMU some insurance.

Joey Danner pitched the complete game allowing one unearnd run on six hits, walked one and struck out four. Danner improves to an RMAC best five wins (5-0) and is currently second with a 1.62.

The series will conclude with a single nine-inning game tomorrow at Suplizio Field beginning at 12:00pm.
