Mavericks Sweep Doubleheader from Orediggers

The Colorado Mesa University baseball continued its four-game series with Colorado Mines on Saturday with a doubleheader from Darden Field in Golden, CO. The Mavericks swept the doubleheader by scores of 11-6 and 17-1 and extended their win streak to 11 games. Colorado Mesa improves their record to 15-4 on the season and 9-0 in the RMAC, while the Orediggers fall to 5-12 and 2-7 in RMAC games.

In the first game, the Mavericks jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Mines tallied five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-4 lead. Colorado Mesa answered back with two runs in the fifth and sixth and three in the seventh to win 11-6.

Colorado Mesa pounded out 18 hits with only two of them going for extra bases.

Nate Robertson and Colton Schoelkopf each had three hits and led seven Mavericks who had multiple hits in the game. Justin Rosales belted his first homerun of the season in the sixth inning.

Cody Lahman picked up the win in relief of starter Matt WIlliams. Lahman is now 4-0 on the season allowing one run while striking out two and walking two. He didnt allow a hit.

In the nightcap, Colorado Mesa came out and smothered the Orediggers in a ten run third inning en route to a 17-1 win. Once again, the Mavericks had 18 hits with three of them going for extra bases.

Pitcher Joey Danner picked up his fourth win of the season allowing just five hits while walking one and striking out nine.

Colton Schoelkopf had three hits bringing his daily total to six. Jordan Moore-Leister also had three hits including two RBIs.

The Mavericks and Orediggers will conclude their series tomorrow with a single nine-inning game beginning at noon.
