Mavericks Fall in Season Opener

The Colorado Mesa University baseball team opened its season on Friday night in La Jolla, Calif. against the UC San Diego. The Mavericks fell by a score of 6-2. CMU and UCSD had the same amount of hits but committed three costly errors which led to three of the Tritons six runs. The Mavericks fall to 2-8 in their last ten season openers.

Justin Rosales and Mitch Corwin provided the offense for the Mavericks. Corwin finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and Rosales hit a two-run double in the ninth.

The Colorado Mesa pitching staff pitched well in the opener allowing three earned runs and seven hits. They struck out nine but walked or hit ninne batters as well. Senior Aaron Corwin got the ball in the opener and went 3.2 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits, walked three and struck out four. Dustin Robirtis, Tamatoa Demello, and Luke Anderson combined to allow two runs (one earned) on four hits, walked three and struck out five.

Triton Ryan Goodbrand earned the win allowing no runs on three hits, walked none and struck out six in five innings of work.

The three-game series will continue from Triton Ballpark in La Jolla, Calif. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm mountain time.
