Sharaya Selsor scored her 1,000
th point of her Colorado Mesa career in the Mavericks 75-55 win over the Adams State Grizzlies on Saturday night in Brownson Arena.
"There was no rhythm to the game, second night on the weekend, a lot of stoppages. It was nice to have that lead in the first half to really give us a cushion," Maverick coach
Taylor Wagner said about the game.
Selsor finished with a game-high 32 points, five rebounds and two assists. This is the fourth time this season she has eclipsed the 30 point mark.
Her 1,000
th point came on a three-point basket from just off the top of the key. She becomes the 17
th player in Colorado Mesa women's basketball history to reach 1,000 points in their career and trails sister Katrina by 15 points for 16
th on the list.
Hannah Pollart finished the night with a season-high 13 points and eight rebounds. Pollart also tied a season-high by handing out four assists.
Hanna Bowden also played very well off the bench. Bowden finished the game with six rebounds, five offensive, and three assists in 15 minutes of action.
"I thought she did a great job defensively, they struggled finishing over the top of her and she did a great job rebounding.
Hannah Pollart was all over, she was the one that gave constant energy. I thought she did a great job tonight," Wagner said.
Colorado Mesa finished the night shooting 46.4 percent (26-of-56) from the field and connected on 9-of 23 three-point attempts. They also shot 87.5 percent (14-of-16) from the free-throw line.
The Mavericks have now out rebounded their opponent in every contest now this season. Tonight, they owned a 45-20 advantage, 18-7 on the offensive glass.
The Grizzlies shot 41.7 percent (20-of-48) from the field but just 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the free-throw line.
Adams State was led by Mariah Gonzales who scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, including 3-of-3 from behind the three-point stripe.
Colorado Mesa moves to 10-0 on the season and 6-0 in the RMAC while the Grizzlies fall to 5-5, 1-4 in RMAC play.
The Mavericks will be off until January 3, 2014 when they take on the Colorado Christian Cougars in Lakewood.
