Box Score GUNNISON, Colo. – Colorado Mesa turned the ball over seven times in a 31-7 loss at Western State Saturday (Nov. 9). The Mountaineer win was the first over the Mavericks since 2004.
Western State led 24-0 at halftime with all 24 points coming off of turnovers by the Mavericks.
Colorado Mesa scored its lone touchdown of the game at the 6:42 of the third quarter.
Aric Kaiser completed a 50-yard pass to
Daniel Perse to cap the seven-play, 88-yard drive.
Austin Ekeler concluded the scoring for the Mountaineers with his second rushing touchdown of the game at 9:17 of the fourth quarter. Ekeler finished with 134 yards on 29 carries (4.6 ypc).
WSCU finished with a slight edge in total offense, 358-320, and led in time of possession 37:40 to 22:20.
Jake Cimolino averaged 5.2 yards per carry on 13 carries for 67 yards for CMU.
Mesa quarterback
Aric Kaiser completed 20-of-35 passes for 223 yards.
Jake Edmiston finished with a game-high 14 tackles, including 11 solo, and one sack.
The football team will host Adams State Nov. 16 in its final game of the regular season at Stocker Stadium.
