Christian Otzen finished with a double-double (17 kills and 11 digs) to lead Colorado Mesa to a 3-1 road win over Adams State Saturday (Nov. 3).
Jordyn Moody also netted a double-double for the Mavericks with 48 assists and 10 digs.
Adams State hit .250 in the opening set and held Mesa to a match-low .136 to win the opening set 25-19. The Grizzlies improved to .286 in the second set, but the Mavericks recorded 17 kills to ASU's 12 to win the second 25-21. CMU's defense came through in the final two sets holding the Grizzlies to .138 and .179 hitting to win 25-17 and 25-22.
"This was a fun win tonight," said head coach
Dave Fleming. "The team fought hard and had good energy.
Kricket Adleman did a great job serving and defending for us."
Adleman finished with four of the team's five service aces and also had 14 digs.
Sunni Rae Baird finished with a match-high 19 digs.
Melissa Hess added 15 kills and hit .300.
CMU finished with advantages in both kills (56-47) and digs (68-58).
Mesa (18-5, 10-4) will play at Fort Lewis Nov. 5.
