Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. – No. 3 CSU-Pueblo racked up 511 yards of total offense in a 34-6 win over Colorado Mesa Saturday (Nov. 2). The 34 points is the fewest the Thunderwolves have scored this season.
Pueblo capitalized on a fumble by Mesa early in the first quarter for its first score of the game. CSUP recovered a fumble on Mesa's 26-yard line. Chris Ashe concluded the four play drive with an eight-yard touchdown run at 13:32.
Greg O'Donnell extended the Pueblo lead to 10-0 with a 34-yard field goal with less than three minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Mavericks lone score of the evening came compliments of a seven-yard pass from
Kyle Duran to
Blaine Jackson early in the second quarter.
Chris Ashe scored his second touchdown of the game with 3:39 left in the first half to give Pueblo a 17-6 lead at halftime. Ashe finished with 170 yards on 28 carries (6.1 ypc).
The Thunderwolves would tack on one touchdown in the third and two more in the fourth.
CSUP quarterback Chris Bonner completed 23-of-35 passes for 271 yards and three interceptions.
Jake Cimolino accounted for 114 of CMU's 157 rushing yards. He averaged 5.0 yards on 23 carries.
Mesa used three quarterbacks in the contest.
Kyle Duran completed 14-of-28 pass attempts for 97 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Aric Kaiser was 1-for-8 for 23 yards and one interception.
Jason Haferman finished 4-for-6.
Defensively
Michael Brady finished with two interceptions and six tackles, while
Jake Edmiston made a game-high 17.
Colorado Mesa (5-4, 4-3) will play at Western State Nov. 9.
