Last Second Field Goal Dooms Football

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Logan Beck kicked a 39-yard field goal with five seconds left to lift Adams State to a 19-17 win over Colorado Mesa in the final football game of the season for both schools. Mesa finishes the season 5-6 overall and 4-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The Mavericks opened the game with a touchdown on its first possession of the game. Mesa marched 73-yards down the field on seven plays. Jason Haferman completed a 19-yard pass to Austin Rodriguez for the touchdown at 12:45 of the first quarter.

The Grizzlies first possession lasted only three plays before Andrew Hurley intercepted a pass on the ASU 16-yard line.

Eli Williams followed up with a 40-yard field goal at 8:47.

Adams State scored the only points in the second quarter. Justin Kauffman ran 40 yards for the touchdown to cap Adams two play, 64-yard drive.

After a scoreless third quarter, Logan Beck tied the game at 10-10 with a 44-yard field goal for Adams at 9:05 of the fourth quarter.
The Grizzlies earned a short field for their following possession with an interception. The 27-yard drive concluded with a three-yard run by Michael Carl. ASU took its first lead of the game at 16-10 after a failed two-point conversion.

CMU retook the lead, 17-16, thanks to a 32-yard touchdown pass from Jason Haferman to Ian Juede at 2:25 of the fourth quarter.

Beck's field goal capped a 13-play, 70-yard drive for the Grizzlies.

Junior Jake Cimolino finished with a season-high 150 yards rushing on 28 carries (5.4 ypc) for CMU.

Jason Haferman completed 12-of-25 pass attempts for 140 yards. He also had two touchdown passes and one interception in his final game for CMU.

Ian Juede became the second Maverick receiver to finish with 100+ yards this season with six catches for 109 yards.

Jake Edmiston finished with a game-high 22 tackles, one shy of his season-high, including 12 solo. He finishes with 155 total tackles and 90 solo for the season.
