Football Hosts Western New Mexico

Colorado Mesa will look to extend its two-game winning streak this Saturday (Oct. 12) when it hosts Western New Mexico. Western New Mexico snapped its three-game loosing streak with a 25-22 win over Colorado School of Mines at home last weekend. 
The Series
Colorado Mesa is 24-9 all-time against Western New Mexico, including a 12-3 record at home. The Mavericks have won four of the last five meetings against the Mustangs in Grand Junction. 
Home Field Advantage
Colorado Mesa is a perfect 2-0 this season at Stocker Stadium. 
National Leader
Colorado Mesa is currently tied for the national lead in interceptions with 12. CMU also ranks seventh in the nation in turnover margin +1.4 and 12th in turnovers gained +14. The Mavericks have lost two fumbles this season, 11th fewest in the nation. 
Defense Stands Tall
The Mesa defense ranks in the top-20 nationally in three defensive categories.  CMU ranks seventh in red zone defense (.533), 14th in fourth down conversion percentage defense (.182) and 19th in scoring defense (16.8 ppg). 
Special Teams
CMU ranks 11th in the nation and third in net punting at 39.17.

Junior running back Jake Cimolino is four yards shy of third place in career rushing at Colorado Mesa with 2,831 yards after rushing for 74 yards at New Mexico Highlands. The Fort Bragg, Calif., native is averaging 98.4 yards per game this season, fourth most in the RMAC.

Dual Threat
Senior Jason Haferman and freshman Kyle Duran combined to threw a season-high 258 yards at NMHU. Haferman completed 13 passes on 20 attempts for 137 yards and Duran finished the game 7-of-21 with 121 yards. Duran also completed the longest pass this season by a CMU player with a 54-yard strike to Steven Lindquist. 
Tackle Machine
Senior linebacker Jake Edmiston leads the league and ranks third in the nation with 13.2 tackles per game. The Palisade, Colo., native ranks 10th in the nation in solo tackles with 6.8. 
Best in the League
Junior Jordan Price has established himself as the top pass defender in the RMAC. The Fort Worth, Texas, native ranks tied for 17th with 1.6 pass break-ups per game. He is tied for the team-lead in interceptions at two with four other players. 
Return Game
Colorado Mesa ranks third in the league in kick returns at 23.4 ypr, but 10th in punt returns at 2.9 ypr. Western New Mexico enters the contest ranked 10th in kick returns at 17.6 ypr and first in punt returns at 17.5 ypr. 
Three in a Row
If the football team defeats Western New Mexico this week, it will be the first time the team has won three games in a row since 2009.
