Colorado Mesa will play at New Mexico Highlands this Saturday (Oct. 5). The teams enter with identical 2-2 overall and 1-1 conference records. The Mavericks defeated Black Hills State 49-11 in their last contest, while the Cowboys lost their last game 30-10 at Colorado Mines. 
The Series
Colorado Mesa is 27-9 all-time against Highlands, and has won 11 of the last 14 matches between the two schools. CMU is 14-5 all-time against NMHU in Las Vegas and has won three of the last four meetings in New Mexico. 
Interception Records
Colorado Mesa tied the RMAC record and set a new school record with seven interceptions against Black Hills State. Ward Anderson threw an RMAC record six picks in the contest. 
Quarterback Situation
The quarterback position for the game is still up in the air. Jason Haferman replaced an injured Kyle Duran and completed 13-of-22 pass attempts for 162 yards and three touchdowns. His 162 yards passing against Black Hills was the most by a CMU quarterback this season. 
Aric Kaiser is cleared to practice for the first time this week since suffering an injury against Menlo on Sept. 7. 
Kyle Duran has also seen time at the quarterback position completing 41 passes on 85 attempts and 397 yards in four games this season. 
Record Watch
Junior running back Jake Cimolino was held to a season-low 60 yards rushing in the win over Black Hills State. He currently has 2,757 career rushing yards and needs 79 yards to move past Charles Dukes (2001-04) for third place at Colorado Mesa.

Keeping it Low
The Colorado Mesa defense has excelled this season under defensive coordinator Todd Auer. CMU is allowing only 16.8 points per game, second-fewest in the RMAC. The Mavs are leading the league in stopping the run allowing only 105.8 yards per game. 
Second-best in the Nation
Colorado Mesa ranks second in the nation with 11 interceptions this season. Washburn leads the nation with 12 picks this season. CMU has a +1.5 turnover margin this season, tied for 10th best in the nation. 
Edmiston on Air
Senior Jake Edmiston was a guest on the RMAC Radio Show this week. The Palisade, Colo., native recorded two interceptions in the win over Black Hills State. He leads the team in tackles with 51 and tied for the most in the league. 
Bad Boys
New Mexico Highlands ranks fifth in the nation in both most penalties per game (11.0) and most penalty yards per game (113.5).
Back on the Line
Freshman Mitch Wehrli returned to the starting line-up at left guard against Black Hills State. The Phoenix, Ariz., native started at left guard against Menlo before being replaced by Jeff Berghorn. 
Fourth Quarter Explosion
The Mavs have scored a season-high 28 points in the fourth quarter against Black Hills State and have scored more points in the fourth quarter (38) than any other. The defense has given up just six points in the fourth quarter, fewest of any quarter. 
Looking Ahead
Colorado Mesa will host Western New Mexico Oct. 12.
